t the 2026 VFGC Convention Banquet,
Glenda Knowles, Landscape Design School
Chairman, announced the creation of a
scholarship to honor Gordon Chappell, beloved
LDS Instructor who has recently retired. A
surprised and pleased Gordon addressed the
crowd and shared his enormous gratitude for
the honor and for the opportunity to teach for
so many decades.
A
st of the scholarship fund was donated by
the Virginia Landscape Design Consultants
Council through membership dues and
several years of fundraising projects. The
Council disbanded this year owing to
difficulties in securing ongoing leadership. It
was not an easy decision to end it but with
no new board, the organization could not
move forward. The desicion was made to use
all remaing funds to establsih the scholarship
in Gordon Chappell’s honor.
