Making a Difference with the
Plant-a-Tree Program

was established by NGC in 2024 in conjunction
with the U. S. Department of Agriculture, replacing the Penny Pines program which had
been in effect since the 1950s. Our VFGC President Sally Harrison highly endorsed this
Program. Under Sally ’s Leadership, Virginia continues to be in the lead.
The Plant-A-Tree Reforestation Program
2024, Virginia had 115 Penny Pines individual donations for a total of $8,636.00. After
switching over to Plant-A-Tree, there were 70 more donations totaling $4,924.88. In 2025,
Virginia had 121 individual contributions totaling $10, 801.00. Total for the above
$24,361.88.

s 132 clubs with 3,371 members. Piedmont District has 45 clubs with 1,390
members. 44 clubs with 121 members donated to Plant-A Tree. It is good to remember the
value of trees. They remove airborne toxins and substances from the atmosphere such as
carbon dioxide, ozone and particulate matter, in addition to reducing erosion from rain and
floods. Roots absorb harmful nutrients. Most importantly, trees are essential for animal
habitation. Reforestation of areas lost to natural disasters is critical.

t s are an excellent way to honor or memorialize a person or to honor a special
event. You may donate any amount from as little as $50.00 up to $10,000.

pplications are available on the NGC website. An email address is required on each form
in order to receive a tax receipt and link to customize your digital certificate. Mail donations
